About me

9 to 5 ...

… might have been my daily routine if, after three semesters of traffic engineering, I had not thrown in the towel and studied composing and arranging. Today, various musical projects fill my working hours and I enjoy that no two days are the same.

Composing & Arranging

More than 20 years ago I started to write a cappella arrangements. What started with Backstreet Boys in headphones and a pencil in hand became my passion and finally my job. Today I have published more than 100 arrangements and compositions. The feedback I get tells me that I found something I’m really good at.

Voice & Keys

With muSix and ONAIR , I have given well over 1000 concerts at home and abroad. Since I now have two small children, I have decided in 2018 to take a break from being on tour. Since that time I’m spending the weekends at home rather than on German motorways. Of course, I miss being on stage with my dear colleagues. But when I give piano lessons once a week in our ONAIR studio, I get to see them and hear all the hot updates of the a cappella world.

Workshop & Worship

Working with choirs and a cappella bands on their goals has always fascinated me. With ONAIR I have regularly been able to give workshops for arranging, stage presence, intonation and vocal technique. Nowadays I like to work with ensembles on pieces that I have arranged for them before. In addition, I have been singing, clapping and dancing as a church musician in Berlin-Neukölln since 2010 and I enjoy bringing children and teenagers in touch with music for the first time.

Do you ever feel f major?

The fact that music and I will probably have longer to do with each other, became clear to me for the first time in the dark turbulence of puberty. When all came over me, good and bad, it was often impossible to put thoughts and feelings into words. But this speechlessness had suddenly disappeared when a piano smiled at me. And if I “only” played what came to my finger’s mind again instead of practising Bach, it did not earn me any points in the next piano lesson though, but in the long run, I won an indispensable 88-key friend. Accompanying others on their way to the “music-is-my-friend” feeling has always been what drives me. Whether while arranging for choirs, singing with preschool children, being on stage or while teaching: I want to encourage people to understand and use music as a language to express emotions and get in touch with each other.

What happened until now ...

Born in 1983 in Berlin

Of course, I do not remember it.
However, I remember my father’s harpsichord in our living room, which has always fascinated me.

When I was 4 years old, I became acquainted with the cello, but the desire for it quickly subsided – not least because the rabbit of the cello teacher always nibbled on my shoes.

The contact with the piano three years later showed a much more sustainable effect. We are still connected in close friendship.

1994-2003 Haendel-Gymnasium

I sang loud and high in the children’s choir of my parish and performed load tests on all Orff instruments before I went to Georg-Friedrich-Händel Gymnasium.

In 1995, as a member of the Rundfunk-Kinderchores Berlin, I did not dare to go on a four-week concert tour of Japan with 40 older girls – my life could have taken a completely different turn!

However, I later attended the concert tours as a member of the youth choir Die Primaner, with which I won 1st prizes in competitions in the USA and South Korea.

1997-2014 Founding member of the a cappella group muSix

In 1997, I founded the a-cappella sextet muSix. We considered singing without instruments to be quite a novelty, and owe the passion of the first months to this ignorance.

At about this time, I also started arranging pop songs for a cappella singing.

What was then curiosity (and the lack of suitable sheet music) soon became a passion and, consequently, later my profession.

2006-2010 Studying at the University of Music in Dresden, Germany

After graduating and a year of community service I studied composition and arrangement (jazz/rock/pop) at the Academy of Music “Carl Maria von Weber”“.

During this time my work began as a freelance arranger (now among others for JazzVocalsSjaella, the ViaphonikerMAYBEBOP, das CONtrust Jazz OrchesterSoundchexxSixpack, den Jazzchor Freiburg and many more).

Since 2010 church musician in Berlin-Neukölln

Immediately after graduation, I got the offer of a permanent position as a church musician at St. Dominicus in Berlin-Neukölln. Since then, I work there 2 days a week and enjoy the wonderful task of bringing children into contact with music.

2011 "Fhainkost"

„Fhainkost“ – a tribute to our beloved hometown Berlin – was the sixth album of muSix and the first CD with self-written songs. Both lyrics and composing as well as the subsequent examination of the songs on stage made this time very valuable and intense for me.

In 2013 I arranged and directed the songs for “The Voices of Winter”, a concert tour with Jocelyn B. Smith and muSix.

Also this year I co-founded the vocal band ONAIR, with which I was fortunate enough to win several 1st prizes and to give concerts worldwide (eg in Taipeh, Chicago, Los Angeles, Moscow, Miami, Tampere).

2016 Wenn ich ein Vöglein wär'

My arrangement of this folk song became known by ONAIR and found its way into the repertoire of many choirs, not only in German-speaking countries.
I was particularly pleased that “The Primaner” won the Grand Prix at the International Choir Competition 2016 in Budapest – with this piece, among others.

Since 2017 Head of the a cappella team at ChorusOnline

Since 2017 I lead the international team of a-cappella-arrangers at ChorusOnline das internationale Team der A-Cappella-Arrangeure.

Also this year the television program “Goldene Henne” was opened with an arrangement of mine.

2018 - Less touring, more family

As the father of (meanwhile) two children, I decided not to go on tour with ONAIR anymore, but to work increasingly as a composer and arranger.

As big as that step was for me, I absolutely enjoy the freedom of working today as flexibly as family life requires.

2019 - new compositions and arrangements

In 2018 and 2019 I composed and published several choral works and children’s songs, including for RKW 2019.  As part of a ZDF television service in April 2019, some of them premiered.
